Project Prom is a nonprofit organization aimed to enlighten, inspire and empower underprivileged youth throughout the Los Angeles Unified School District. Students are required to complete a minimum of two workshops covering topics like self-esteem, goal building and college readiness and complete two volunteer activities within the community. Qualifying students are then provided with a prom ticket, prom attire, a hairstylist, makeup artist, limousine transportation, a pre-prom party and funds for graduation dues. Marie Throne, creator of Project Prom says that these hard working students definitely deserve the celebration after maintaining G.P.A.’s ranging from 3.0-4.2, making them ideal candidates for college recruiters.
