I love when I see young female entrepreneurs giving back to their communities, that’s why today’s WCW is Elisa Wiah, founder of Girls Like Me Inc. a nonprofit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Girls Like Me Inc. encourages young ladies ages 11-18 to “Go & Dream” through mentorship programs, blog and online magazine. The mission is to help mentees set and achieve personal goals, provide a forum for healthy dialogue concerning everyday issues, and train young ladies to one day mentor others like themselves.
At the beginning of the program, each girl is asked to identify her dreams and goals. Program participants will develop a personalized plan of actions and practices that will align them strategically with the plans they have prioritized for their lives. Through ongoing personal development, young women will learn skills to help them execute their self-made plans. In addition, ladies will also learn the rewarding power of giving back through monthly and ongoing community service projects as well as education through academic enrichment programs.
“Girls Like Me was established as a movement to call forth all young girls to step up, claim, and take back their futures. Young women, conjure the motivation within and tell yourself “I want better for myself. I won’t be a victim of my surroundings. I am the master of my own fate. I am more than what you say I am. I am what my higher power says I am.” Ladies of all ages, it is time we support one another. For we are stronger together than when we are divided. As women, we have all felt lonely or inferior at one point. Recollect the actions that summoned those feelings. The time is now. You have the power to imaginatively re-create a world where no girl has to go alone. Where she has another woman to guide her at every turn. The time is now.”
