So……what’s wrong with Bottled Water?
Most plastic water bottles contain BPA!
What’s BPA? Bisphenol-A is nothing but “a chemical produced in large quantities for use primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins,”according to the National Institue of Environmental Health Sciences.
Adverse Side Effects
On a scale from 1 – 5, the National Toxicology Program (NTP) rated they had “Some concern“ (3) for BPA’s effect on the brain, behavior and and prostate gland in fetuses, infants and children. “Minimal concern“ (2) for effects on the mammary gland and an earlier age for puberty in females, fetuses, infants and children. And “Negligible concern”(1) that exposure of BPA to pregnant women will result in fetal or neonatal mortality, birth defects, or reduced weight and growth in their offspring. See full report here.
How can I avoid BPA?
- Avoid plastics that are marked with recycle codes 3 or 7, some may be made with BPA
- Reduce your use of canned foods
- Opt for glass, porcelain or stainless steel containers, especially for hot food or liquids
- Use baby bottles that are BPA free
- Don’t microwave polycarbonate plastic food containers
